A Life Full of S’s: 2/6/17

Safety.  Security.  Simplicity.  Soft pillows.  Sex. runner

Salvation.  Skittles.  Shelter.  Sanity.  Solitude.

Saturdays. Strudel.  Sandwiches.  Steak.  Skating.

Strolling.  Strollers.  Soccer.  Satellite.  Sweets.  Selfies. And Seclusion.

Some of these things seem fine. Yes. But too much of any one thing can be our undoing.

For some reason, as I awoke today my thoughts were simply this: “How a life of too many ’S’s can quickly turn into a life full of ‘A’s,”

Now— I have absolutely no idea what that means. It could be nothing, but it could be something. Something for someone, and so I must write it down.

Without noticing the contents of our little worlds, it could very easily fill up with things that may unbalance us. We could end up selfishly pursuing anything that seems enjoyable in the moment, which could result in a life full of ‘A’s.

Attitude.  Aloneness. Aggression.  Asthma.   ADD.  Adaptation. Afterthoughts.  Arrhythmia.  Academic Probation.  Acid reflux. Alcoholism.   Anorexia.   Assholes.   Accidents.  Abortion. Absurdity. Anti-social behavior.  Anger.  Atheism.  Apathy.

and Atrophy.

Can I come up with a bunch of positive sounding A-words? Yes, of course. The English language is almost unlimited.

But would that prove my point? No, no it would not.  Putting apples on that list doesn’t help anyone understand the concept. So I cleverly left those out. I am SO sly. 😉

—You may be asking: “What’s the point of this blog post Emma?”

I don’t know.  I guess I’m just being faithful?  If it doesn’t speak to you in the place you are right now—then maybe this one wasn’t for you. And that’s okay!

For me, the point is training. Training to be be obedient.  All I know is, I could have been asleep until now. Ha! But I fully expect to have a fantastic day because I started my day out in obedience to what the Lord laid upon my heart.  My hope is that you learn to hear His still, small, voice, and walk in the same obedience. It’s a challenge sometimes. But that’s why you need companions.

So, let’s try to balance, in moderation, the things we allow into our lives. Starting today, now.

Let’s do this!

Verses to back up my ramblings:

Philippians 4:5 – Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord [is] at hand.

1 Corinthians 6:12 – All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

1 Peter 5:8 – Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking out whoever he may devour:

Ephesians 5:18 – …be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but [instead] be filled with the Spirit;

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?   (Read More…)

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 – To every [thing there is] a season, and a time for every purpose under the heaven:   (Read More…)  (See Post entitled: Conservation of Time)
